RUMGINAE SCHOOL OF NURSING MARKS 51ST INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

The Rumginae School of Nursing in Western Province is celebrating Papua New Guinea’s 51st Independence Anniversary with a full-day program involving students, staff, families and other participants.
The celebrations began yesterday evening with a pre-Independence program featuring an Independence Devotion and Preview, which included musical performances, slideshows, an Independence Quiz and a regional showcase representing the four regions of Papua New Guinea; Momase, Highlands, Southern and New Guinea Islands.
The official program got underway at 6:30am today with a March Pass, followed by the raising of the national flag, singing of the National Anthem and recitation of the National Pledge.
Participants then took part in an Independence Quiz organised by the school administration, bringing together students, staff, families and other members of the school community.
An Independence Reflection was held before the Principal of Rumginae School of Nursing, Mr Amos Kupaloma, delivered his Independence message to students and staff.
The morning session concluded with brunch before participants moved into the afternoon activities.
The cultural program, which is currently underway from 11am to 1pm, features cultural performances and demonstrations of traditional practices. These include displays of cultural artefacts, traditional cooking, fishing and trapping techniques, among other activities.
The celebrations will continue this afternoon with the basketball and volleyball grand finals scheduled from 1pm to 2pm.
A presentation ceremony and Independence Cake Cutting will follow from 4:30pm to 5pm, before the official closing program at 5pm.
The Rumginae School of Nursing has extended its Independence greetings to all Papua New Guineans as the country commemorates 51 years of nationhood.
