PM PROJECTS K1 BILLION FOR PORT MORESBY BY 2040

PORT Moresby’s revenue could reach K1 billion by 2030 as increased economic activity and better city planning drive growth, Prime Minister James Marape says

Speaking at the launch of the NCDC Plan for 2040, Marape said the capital’s revenue had increased from less than K260 million when he took office in 2019 to more than K500 million.

He attributed the growth to increased movement of people, spending and business activity in the city.

Marape said the next stage would be to ensure Port Moresby was properly planned to take advantage of further economic expansion.

He projected that the city could reach K1 billion in revenue by 2030, describing the target as an indication of the potential of a properly planned city.

The Prime Minister encouraged local communities to participate in the economic opportunities created by the growth of Port Moresby.

He urged landowners and communities to consider businesses such as trade stores, hotels and guest houses rather than selling their land.
