DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING & MONITORING AND JICA INK GRANT AGREEMENT

THE Japan International Cooperation Agency [JICA] and the Department of Planning & Monitoring today inked two major grant agreements for major projects to commence in the country.

The Grant agreement signed today will go towards two major projects, the Project for Landslide Risk Reduction on the Kokopo-Rabaul Coastal Trunk Road and the Project for Human Resource Development.

JICA Chief Representative, Shirouzu Kenichi stated that last year, JICA and the DNPM inked two previous grant agreements to see the improvement of the National Fisheries College and the second batch of Projects for Human Resource Development Scholarship and they were happy to partner with the DPNM to deliver these projects.

Both Grant Aid Projects are valued at around K131.3mil overall and is set to be implemented through JICA as part of the Japanese Government’s Official Development Assistance to Papua New Guinea.

This follows requests formally requested by the Government to help support socio-economic development in line with the Medium-Term Development Plan IV.
