A total of 10 tonnes of El Niño relief supplies have been delivered to Tabubil as the airlift operation to North Fly District enters its fourth day.

The remaining 40 tonnes of the initial 50-tonne allocation designated for air transport are still in Port Moresby awaiting transportation to Tabubil.

The airlift operation continued over the weekend and through to yesterday.

The supplies delivered so far include bags of rice and flour, tinned fish, cooking oil and salt.

Meanwhile, the relief items are being temporarily stored at the Peter Lok Centre, which also serves as the Star Mountains Local-level Government (LLG) Council Chamber in Tabubil, while arrangements for distribution are being finalised.

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is transporting the relief supplies from Port Moresby to Tabubil under the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) humanitarian relief campaign supporting North Fly District.

The Australian Government has been acknowledged for its assistance in facilitating the delivery of relief supplies to communities affected by the El Nino-induced drought in North Fly.
