UPNG CONFIRMS RESIGNATION OF VICE-CHANCELLOR PROFESSOR IAN FINDLAY

BY JORDON VELA

THE University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) has confirmed the immediate resignation of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Findlay earlier this morning. However, the university has yet to issue an official statement outlining the circumstances surrounding his sudden departure.

Professor Findlay personally confirmed his resignation in a Facebook comment responding to a viral post circulating online earlier today, November 2, 2026.

In his response, he described the resignation report as genuine and cited disagreements over proposed university reforms as the reason for his decision.

He stated: “Any reform is very challenging, but I cannot reform the university if the Chancellor rejects the Government reform and undermines me when I try to reform.”

His comments have since circulated widely on social media, drawing public attention to the circumstances surrounding his departure.

UPNG is yet to provide further official clarification on the matter.
