DWU LAUNCHED 30TH ANIVERSARY FESTIVAL OF LEGACY AND VISION

THE Divine Word University launched its 30th Anniversary Festival of Legacy and Vision today at the Sir Peter Barter Auditorium at the Madang main campus.

Professor Fr. Philip Gibbs, President of Divine Word University, delivered the opening address at the launch of the DWU 30th Anniversary Festival of Legacy and Vision, reflecting on the University’s achievements and future direction.

DWU Founding President, Fr. Jan Czuba SVD (1996-2015) reflected during the launching today that “We had the courage to envision a university. We wanted to form people of competence, character, and integrity.”

Fr. Jan also made a powerful statement that reflected well the 30 years journey of DUW, a university does not exist for itself; it exists to serve the nation and to serve humanity.

The founding president further emphasized that academic excellence must always be accompanied by ethical responsibility, reminding all that education is not only about knowledge, but also about values and service to the people.

Professor Gibbs also highlighted that DWU’s greatest legacy is its graduates, whose competence, compassion, and commitment to service contribute to nation-building and integral human development.

After 30 years of establishment since 1996, more than 27 000 graduates have gone out to become teachers, nurses, doctors, accountants, journalists, public servants, and community leaders from the Divine Word University.

Celebrations will continue tomorrow and end on Saturday with faculty displays and cultural dances.
