AUSSIE GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS SIASSI LUTHERAN SCHOOL

STUDENTS at Siassi Lutheran Secondary School on Umboi Island, Morobe Province, will soon learn in safer and better facilities following support from the Australian Government.
Through its Direct Aid Program, Australia has provided K223,000 for renovations to the school mess at Lablab Station campus, covering flooring, roofing, plumbing, water storage, solar housing, cooking equipment, and interior works.
Australian Consul‑General Brenton Kanowski said: “Education is one of the most important investments for young people’s future. By improving essential school facilities, this project will help create a better environment for students to learn, grow and succeed.”
School Principal Wesley Kalipe thanked Australia, noting it was one of the school’s first major external funding projects.
He said the refurbished mess will be completed by year‑end and launched during the school’s first Grade 12 graduation.
During a recent visit, officers and sailors from HMAS Leeuwin also handed over building supplies and conducted lessons on hydrography.
Australia says the project reflects its long‑standing partnership with church‑run schools and local communities across Papua New Guinea.
