UPNG REVIVES SCIENCE FAIR WITH TOP AWARD WINNERS

THE University of Papua New Guinea School of Natural and Physical Sciences has revived the Science Fair this year that saw students participants walk away with certificates and 3 Top award winners.

The event hosted yesterdat at UPNG saw Six division under the School of Natural and Physical sciences as well as invited schools in NCD took part in the fair.

Bonnie Enosh Amof, Science Fair Coordinator told FM100 News, this year’s science fair is the first ever again after was last hosted in 2016, ten years ago.

The overall winning project of the 2026 UPNG Science Fair, is Bighet Rekod-Criminal Record Management System, created by Belden Sakiromo a final year Mathematics, Statistics and Computer science student, also the Project that took the second prize was the Plastic Waste into Paver (Brick).

Belden Sakiromo explains that Bighet Rekod- Criminal Management System is a web based criminal record management system, a prototype basically to move away from paper based record to digital, to assist police officers store records digitally.

Mr Amof says the Science Fair brings together students to create and showcase project with scientific basis and compete for prizes for scientific excellence.

He confirmed 2 high schools in NCD took part, Port Moresby International School or POMIS with 4 projects and Paradise High School with 1 project.

Mr Amof further says, their aim is to make the Science Fair and annual event for science students to showcase their talents, innovative ideas and projects and come up with solutions to problems that exist in the country and make those solutions become a reality.
