JOHN UME RETURNS HOME WITH INTERIM TITLE

BY JORDON VELA
PAPUA NEW GUINEA Champion Boxer John Ume says it is good to be back home after winning the BX-9 Interim Welterweight title in Auckland on Saturday.
Ume stopped New Zealand’s Hamza Perwaisy in the seventh round and is now recovering at The Sanctuary Hotel in Port Moresby ahead of his next title fight against Riley Allan.
The hotel says it will continue supporting Ume as he pursues his professional boxing career and promotes PNG talent.
PNG Boxing Union President Dr Gideon Kendino says Ume could headline a major boxing event planned for PNG.
Ume says discussions are continuing on a possible Olympic return, but his immediate focus remains professional boxing.
