AITAPE AUXILIARY POLICE ATTACKED FOLLOWING CLAIMS OF BRUTALITY

Youths in Aitape town retaliated and chased auxiliary police officers in Aitape following the attack of a youth by the auxiliary police officers on Friday.
The youths were armed with bush knives, grass knives, wire catapult, sticks and stones and chased Auxiliary Police officials and a few regular police in town back to the Aitape police station causing fear and confusion amongst the general public.
Bystanders claim some Auxiliary Police officials in uniform attacked the youth who was alleged to be a murder suspect, which then led to the confrontation.
The situation in town was tensed, as youths demanded for the accused to be released.
Police could not comment on the situation when contacted.
