KIUNGA YOUTHS FIX WALKWAY
By Kenny ROMANUS, Kiunga
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the youth from Ward 3 of Kiunga Urban LLG took the initiative to repair walkways for the benefit of their neighbors during the festive season.
On Christmas Eve, local youths, particularly those from the backroad near the PNGDF Forward Operating Base (FOB), volunteered to build a much-needed walkway leading to the New Cemetery.
The road had deteriorated over time, but the youths, armed with household tools, worked together to restore it.
This newly repaired walkway is expected to serve over a thousand households for at least the next three months.
However, the project was completed without any external funding from the LLG or other sources, as it was entirely a community-driven effort.
The youths, representing the Ward 3 communities, are now appealing to the authorities for assistance in providing gravel to improve access from the Baptist Church to the New Cemetery.
They are also requesting the installation of 3-4 streetlights along the road.
Most of these young men are students who undertook this project in preparation for better accessibility to their studies as the new academic year approaches.
