AMBO BARRED FROM REACHING PATIENT IN SABAMA FOLLOWING CLASHES
By Nigel MADO
AS the country transitioned into 2025 from 2024 with a new re-invigorated spirit for the future ahead, members of the Public at Sabama in the Moresby-south area have proven that there is still a lot of work to do in order to ensure that critical services in the country operate with minimal to no threats to their lives whilst carrying out essential services.
Last night, a National St. John’s Ambulance Service unit was barred entry into Sabama to treat a gun-shot wound patient, who had called in to the National Ambulance Operations Centre [NAOC] for emergency first-aid and transportation to the Emergency Department [ED] at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
This call was dispatched to Delta Crew’s, Alpha 041 unit, consisting of Trainee Ambulance Officer [TAO], Venstarven Kombe along with Qualified Ambulance Officers [QAO] Stevie Nion & Hosea Freddy Wartovo.
Upon arrival at the scene, which was under heavy police surveillance, A041 were advised to not proceed further due to the intense situation at hand.
When speaking to Kalang News, TAO Kombe explained that the situation was tense estimating that the whole community may have been up in arms against the Police.
QAO Nion said the unit, upon receiving advice to hold until the situation had cleared, were later recalled to the NAOC as they were unable to reach the patient.
Nion said for the sake of safety, the Unit had to be called back to base and efforts to get in touch with the caller unsuccessful.
