PARLIAMENT TO PAY TRIBUTE TO LATE SIR JULIUS
By Nigel MADO
The Parliament will hold a special session to honour the late Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan, Prime Minister James Marape has confirmed.
“If it is happening on Monday or any time next week, the parliament will pay respect,” Marape said. “We will require schools to be not in class for an hour or two, and employers to allow their employees time to observe the broadcast.”
The Prime Minister urged citizens to participate in the memorial by tuning in to TV, radio, or live streaming broadcasts. The national tribute will serve as a solemn opportunity for all Papua New Guineans to reflect on the immense contributions made by Sir Julius Chan.
Prime Minister Marape said the passing of Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan marks the end of a “one-in-a-lifetime generation of leaders,” during his speech addressing the nation.
“People like me will never fit into Sir Julius or Sir Michael’s class,” Marape admitted. “They come once in a lifetime. These were leaders, even in their own youth, who had the foresight to construct this country.”
