John Ariku, an indigenous Ambenob landowner of Madang District was officially nominated last week as the final candidate for the Madang Town Mayor seat.

Mr Ariku’s nomination was backed by the Madang Water Supply Customary Land Resource Owners Association Inc.

He said his nomination represents the voice of traditional landowners who have long been sidelined in the town’s affairs.

“Madang was built on Ambenob land. It’s time the original landowners take the lead in shaping its future,” he said.

Mr Ariku called for leadership that reflects the identity, history, and values of the people who have lived on the land for generations, while welcoming all residents and businesses as part of the town’s community.

“Our town must be led by someone who understands its roots and respects its people,” he said, urging voters to back indigenous leadership in the upcoming election.
