Morobe Alluvial Mining Limited (MAML), the first provincial government-owned alluvial mining company, has relaunched its operations with a new partnership aimed at benefiting local communities in Morobe Province.

This week, MAML inked an agreement with a Chinese contractor, marking a significant step in reviving small-scale gold mining operations in the region. After years of inactivity, this new deal brings fresh optimism to the landowners and local communities.

Peter Seski, Executive Chairman of MAML, shared his excitement: “This is the result of the new management’s efforts. It’s like bringing back the old Morobe Alluvial Mining operation. Our partnership with a Chinese company and the Morobe Provincial Government is our first major step.”

With this partnership, MAML will introduce advanced machinery and skilled workers to improve the efficiency of gold exploration and mining. Initial steps will involve surveys and site preparations in select areas.

Governor Luther Wenge, who fully supports the relaunch, emphasized the importance of local control over mining operations. “It’s not just about extracting gold, it’s about empowering our people to manage and benefit from their own resources,” he said.
