PARADISE PRIVATE HOSPITAL MAKES HISTORY WITH LIFE-CHANGING CHILD SURGERY

PARADISE Private Hospital has reached a major medical milestone, successfully performing its first-ever Transanal Endorectal Pull-Through or TERPT procedure in Papua New Guinea.
The complex six-hour surgery was carried out earlier this month on an eight-year-old boy diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s Disease a condition that blocks normal bowel movement.
Leading the operation was Senior and Paediatric Surgeon Dr James Kennedy, believed to be the only surgeon in the Pacific currently performing this procedure as a single-stage surgery avoiding the need for multiple operations or a stoma.
PPH management says the child is now recovering well in intensive care and is on track for a healthier and complication-free life.
Chief Executive Officer Dr Polapoi Chalau says the successful operation highlights the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality and specialised care locally reducing the need for costly overseas treatment.
Meanwhile PPH Director Finance/Co-Owner Mrs Janet Sios said Paradise Private Hospital continues to focus on strengthening its systems and enhancing the way care is delivered.
She stressed that at the same time they remain committed to elevating services to a tertiary level of care and their goal is to reduce the need for overseas referrals by ensuring that high-quality advanced care is accessible right here in PNG at Paradise Private Hospital.
Paradise Private Hospital says the milestone reflects a strong team effort and marks a significant step forward in advancing specialist healthcare services for children in Papua New Guinea.
