PETER HAILS K1.5B MOREGUINA ROAD AS ‘GATEWAY TO OPPORTUNITY

CENTRAL Governor Rufina Peter acknowledges Marape–Rosso Government for continued commitment to infrastructure development, describing the K1.586 billion Magi Highway project as a transformative investment to Central province.
Her remarks were followed by the official execution of the contract by Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae, who signed on behalf of the State for the construction of a 242-kilometre section of the Magi Highway on Tuesday 3rd March 2026.
Governor Peter described the project as a gateway to opportunity for the people which will open up local investment opportunities for Abau District and Central Province.
She stressed that improved road access would unlock vast economic potential in agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and small-to-medium enterprises along the Central coastline.
With construction set to span eight years, the Magi Highway upgrade is designed to reshape Central Province’s economic landscape, strengthen its connection to neighbouring Milne Bay, and reinforce its role as a strategic growth corridor for Papua New Guinea.
