JAPANESE GOVERNMENT FUNDS RURAL ELECTRICITY PROJECT IN WABAG DISTRICT

THE Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA) is working in partnership with the Wabag District Development Authority (WDDA) to connect rural households in the Laiap local level government area of Wabag District with electricity supply.
Wabag Open MP Dr Lino Tom highlighted the strategic partnership with JICA to implement the rural electrification project in Wabag District.
He sincerely acknowledged the Japanese government through JICA for funding this project as per their APEC-2018 commitments with the Government of Papua New Guinea.
MP Lino mentioned that the WDDA as part of the District Rural Electrification Program funded the main grid extension to Lungitap in the Aiyale Valley within the Lai local level government area.
The second term MP said that JICA is doing household electricity connection from Birip near the main Highlands Highway Lukitap covering dozens of clans and hundreds of households.
He added that as much as possible, the WDDA will continue to provide basic infrastructure and services to improve the lives of the people accordingly.
The medical surgeon turned politician revealed that all new roads constructed by the WDDA since 2018 have electricity grid extensions, making it possible to roll out the rural electrification project accordingly.
He informed the people of the Lai LLG that WDDA will seal the Birip-Lukitap road and connect electricity to all rural households along this important road link, making it a model to be implemented throughout the district.
