The vibrant spirit of youth leadership and community engagement shone brightly as the Wabag Diocesan Youth Rally, hosted at Sari Parish, culminated recently, in a moving mass service.

The event, coordinated by Tony Wialu in collaboration with Catholic Bishops Conference for the Papua New Guinea Solomon Islands (CBS PNGSI) Secretary for Youth, brought together hundreds of young participants from across the diocese.

The rally featured a series of workshops, reflections, and engaging activities aimed at empowering the youth and fostering a sense of solidarity within the Catholic community.

Discussions ranged from spiritual growth to leadership development, encouraging the youth to embrace their roles as future leaders in their communities.

The rally’s highlight was the mass service, led by Auxiliary Bishop Justin Ain Soongie, who delivered an inspiring homily that emphasized the importance of faith and dedication among the youth.

He was joined by Fr. Paul Kanda and several seminarians from the Catholic Diocese of Wabag, who actively participated in the liturgy, enhancing the communal experience of the gathering.

In his address, Bishop Soongie encouraged the attendees to carry the lessons learned during the rally back to their communities, emphasizing that their enthusiasm and faith should act as a catalyst for positive change.

“As young leaders, you have the power to influence those around you and to spread the message of love and faith,” Bishop Soongie stated.

Tony Wiala expressed his gratitude for the successful rally, highlighting the collaborative effort between the diocesan youth and the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea Youth Secretary, Sister Sharon.

“It has been a wonderful opportunity for our youth to come together, share their experiences, and grow in faith.

“We hope this event inspires them to take active roles in their parishes and beyond,” Tony Wiala said.

Sister Sharon also echoed these sentiments, noting the importance of building a network among the youth of the region.

“Together, we can create a strong community rooted in faith and service,” she affirmed.

Participants left the Sari Parish with renewed spirits and a shared commitment to living out their faith in action, inspired by the collective experience of joy, learning, and worship.

The Wabag Diocesan Youth Rally is anticipated to become an annual event, further solidifying the bonds among the youth of Wabag and fostering a spirit of collaboration and faithfulness in the years to come.
