THE BATTLE FOR HUNTERS No. 1 JUMPER CONTINUES

THE battle to grab the coveted PNG Hunters fullback spot and make the No. 1 jumper their own is far from over.
It is a one-way traffic, competition between incumbent Sanny Wabo and livewire Morea Morea to see who finally stake claim of the spot and make the most this season.
After coming back from a short preseason train-and-trial stint with the North Queensland Cowboys, the 2023 Queensland Hostplus Cup competition Rookie of the Year Morea declared he is up to retain what belongs to him.
Morea, despite being on the sideline and played limited Hunters games last year, he was lucky enough to earn a PNG Kumul call-up, where he made his debut in the Pacific Championships against the Cook Island and went on to test his potential with the Cowboys.
“Last year was tough, pretty tough for me but I was lucky enough at the back end of the year,” Morea told media.
“Definitely this year, I’m looking forward to competing for that number 1 jersey.
“Again, Sanny obviously owned it last year but I’m trying to get that jersey back.”
The Kumul no. 321 added that it was to be good back home after a stint down-under, however, he is willing to share the skills and experience he gained within the Hunters camp.
“It was good coming back here.
“I think my communicating and skills level and gone to another level.
“I’m trying to teach the boys, some of the things that I learned down there.
Morea added that himself and slippery Wabo are getting along well, understanding each other and take priorities to help the team, making the finals this year again.
