SIR JULIUS LAID TO REST

At 2:30pm this afternoon, the Last founding father and the longest Parliamentarian in the history of Papua New Guinea, Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan was laid to rest at his home of Huris, Manmantinut in Namatanai, New Ireland Province.
Following the outpouring of condolences and stories from, friends, parliamentarians and those who had had the opportunity to work alongside the founding father, his wish to lay at home overlooking the sea at Huris was honoured.
It is estimated that over 500 people from neighbouring villages and provinces, journeyed to the home of the country’s first Finance Minister, two-time Prime Minister and Governor of New Ireland to pay their final respects.

In his final respects to the Late Sir Julius, Prime Minister James Marape gave his word of thanks for the being the member to believe in him and endorse him as a candidate in his candidate in his first entrance into parliament and would be forever grateful for the mentorship of the late Sir Julius.
The Prime Minister stated that Sir Julius represented Humility, Kindness, Dedication, Patriotism, Honesty and lastly, he was a visionary leader.
He recalled a historic picture of both founding fathers, Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare and Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan embracing at Kavieng Airport as an image that will forever remain etched in his heart.
