THE Trukai Industries Limited has come on board for the fourth time to inject a massive K80 000 to back a local canoe racing competition in Port Moresby.
Known as the Vanagi Canoe racing competition, a significant community and family-oriented event will commence on the 5th of April at the Era Kone (formerly Ela Beach) and has received the morale booster cheque from the major and naming right sponsor at their head office at Gordons Industrial area.
Trukai Industries Ltd marketing manager Peggy Maha stated that it is their fourth consecutive sponsorship to the event and affirmed they are determined to support, as part of giving back to the communities where they do business and operate.
Maha said they are proud to come on board to backed the local indigenous people of Motu-Koitabu, including the anticipated Hiri-Moale Festival.
“The Vanagi Race is a celebration of traditional skills honed overtime and is an integral part of the Motu Koita people’s identity,” she said.
“Trukai is proud to be the naming right sponsors, and looks forward to this year’s race.
“Trukai’s sponsorship of K80, 000 will go toward the prize money for the winners and operational costs for the event.
“We wish all participants the best of luck as we anticipate a fast finish on the waters of Ela Beach. And we hope to see the Port Moresby community at the race.”
Vanagi Canoe racing coordinator John Podi commended Trukai for their support and added that the money will be used for the intended purposes.
“We have more than 20-canoes already registered for the race and expecting more to come forward this week.
“Normally, we have more than 50-small canoes and that number has been constant for the past four-years.
“Our thankyou to the naming right sponsor, Trukai Industries Ltd for the support.”
Representing the Motu-Koitabu Assembly and Hiri Moale Festival Organising Committee Molly O’Rourke also thanked Trukai for their continued support, adding that the support will go a long way in recognising the indigenous people of the Port Moresby.
“Your commitment to this event, not only brings the culture of this event alive, but it also brings communities and villages together to celebrate the Hiri Moale Festival.
“Let us together celebrate another successful event this year in the eve of PNG’s 50th Anniversary,” O’Rourke added.
