The Morobe Provincial Government has pledged K3 million annually to support law enforcement initiatives, further strengthening its partnership with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC).

This was announced during the graduation of 100 police reservists, including 15 women, who completed a demanding four-week training program at the Gusap Regional Training Centre in Morobe Province.

Morobe Provincial Administrator Max Bruten highlighted the importance of collaboration between the provincial government and the police in ensuring peace and security throughout the province.

“As a province, we understand the critical role law enforcement plays in maintaining peace and safety for our people,” Bruten said. “That’s why we are investing in training and infrastructure to bolster policing efforts.”

A portion of the K3 millionβ€”K1 millionβ€”will be used to improve the training facility, which includes plans for a new hall for future graduations and a nursing facility.

Deputy Police Commissioner Dr. Philip Mitna, who attended the ceremony, praised the efforts of the newly trained reservists, stressing that they would be instrumental in addressing the ongoing manpower challenges within the police force, particularly in more remote districts with limited law enforcement presence.

“Reservists play a vital role in supporting regular officers, especially in community policing and crime prevention,” Dr. Mitna said.

The newly trained recruits will soon be deployed across Morobe Province, reinforcing efforts to combat crime and improve public safety.
