WAPENAMANDA ELITES CALL FOR ORDER AMIDST VIOLENCE IN THE DISTRICT

FOLLLOWING the recent attack and burning down of the Local MPs house in Wapenamanda and the continuous ethnic violence in the district, the Wapenamanda Elites residing in Port Moresby has voiced their concerns for order and appropriate actions to be taken by the government to resolve the issues among waring tribes in the district,
Yesterday afternoon, they gathered at Unagi oval and voiced their concerns to the media, saying Wapenamanda district is the gateway to the province and the region and immediate action has to be taken to address the issue, as it can disrupt movement of goods and services to the area and also distruction to government institution, airport, police station, health centres, schools, in the districts.
Spokesperson Mike Maio- Yoponda together with others, highlighted 3 agendas, a call for a State Of Emergency, call for church groups to intervene and also for the respective leaders and Members to intervene.
The elite’s concern is to save Wapenamanda and pointed out that the two warring tribes Yakuman tribe and Yangakum tribe do not own Wapenamanda, and will not allow this fight to continue and disturb flow of activities in the district.
