MADANG’S remote schools are facing tough times. Many are far from towns and lack resources.

“No child is too far to be reached,” said Secondary School Inspector Nimrod Kaboanga. He has visited schools on long walks, boat trips, and flights.

Reaching Josephstaal High School in Middle Ramu took him two days on foot. Aiome Secondary required a boat along the Ramu River. Simbai High School needed a flight from Mt. Hagen and a long trek through mountains to Dusin High School.

Teachers live in harsh conditions with few supplies. Many come from other provinces but continue teaching. “These teachers are heroes,” Kaboanga said.

Local communities help with transport, food, and guidance, making inspections possible.

Kaboanga warned that learning standards are falling but said stronger government support could help.

“Children in remote areas deserve the same chances as those in towns,” he said.
