THE aviation industry today celebrated a milestone, welcoming the first four engineers of the Airbus A220, also referred to as the People’s Balus.
The four engineers include John Pidik, Henry Kaunger, Abraham Gena and Edward Polau who were officially recognised as the first airbus engineers for Papua New Guinea.
In a press conference held today in Port Moresby, three of the engineers were presented their licenses by CASA officials and the Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer (ANG CEO).
ANG CEO, Alan Milne, who also has a background in aviation engineering commended the engineers for their dedication.
Mr Milne highlighted the broader national significance of the achievement.
“As Air Niugini introduced the A220 into its fleet as part of its fleet transformation program, it is equally important to have locally trained and CASA-certified engineers to ensure safe, efficient and sustainable operations” he said.
These four engineers are experienced and carry many ratings as well, each holding certifications across three to six different aircraft types.
These new licenses are aligned with the international aviation standards.
