POGERA-Paiela Open MP Gidron Maso Karipe has raised two pressing issues that need to be immediately addressed concerning the future of his district.

The first term MP mentioned that he will speak openly and responsibly on two issues of deep concern, which include
the Porgera SML resettlement process and law and order in the district.

Firstly, he highlighted that resettlement concerns people’s homes, land, livelihoods, and future and can not be rushed or reduced to political statements.

He clarified that resettlement requires proper consultation, planning, resources, and sustained engagement with affected families, landowners, the national government, and other stakeholders.

“I have raised these concerns with the National Government, and work is starting. My commitment is to pursue a fair, properly planned, and lasting resettlement outcome, with our people properly consulted and informed,” MP Karipe said.

On the outstanding law and order issues in the resource rich district, the youngest MP stated that he loss of innocent lives in Porgera is heartbreaking as the people deserve to live in safe communities.

“However, law and order can not be solved by one MP alone. It requires the national and provincial governments, police, courts, LLGs, communities, churches, community leaders, and other stakeholders to work together.
We need stronger enforcement, better coordination, functioning justice systems, community cooperation, and opportunities for our young people,” he said.

As he marks an anniversary in public office, he acknowledges that much work remains as one year can not solve every complex problem but has allowed him to establish important engagements and processes.

“I will continue to listen, engage, and work with all relevant authorities and stakeholders for safer communities, fairer outcomes, and a better future for Porgera-Paiela,” he said.

The Pangu Pati strongman maintains that he respects the right of the people to question and hold him accountable as his commitment remains to serve, listen, and work for the people
