By Sharon AGAVI
The member for Ijivitari District of the Northern province, Hon. David Arore, has once again proven his commitment to the education and development of his district by signing a contract with the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG) to sponsor students and public servants for training and studies.
Today a cheque presentation ceremony was held at the SILAG main campus, where Mr. Arore presented a dummy cheque of K140,000 as part of his promised K350,000 for the students’ enrolment at the institution.
This generous gesture will benefit a total of 18 students who have been selected to receive training at SILAG.
Mr. Arore, in his speech, highlighted the challenges faced by the Ijivitari District in terms of government services and finances.
He mentioned that since the split of the Popondetta and Ijivitari districts, Popondetta has received more government services, leaving Ijivitari with limited resources. However, with the new development of schools in the district, Mr. Arore is determined to bring government services to Ijivitari and empower the district’s public servants.
The member further emphasized the importance of utilizing public funds wisely and urged the students to study hard and prove their worth.
He reminded them that the money spent on their education is for the betterment of the district and they should not let their district down.
The Chief Executive Officer of SILAG, Michael Barobe also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Arore for his support and promised to provide quality training to the students, especially the public servants.
Arore also spoke about the declining work ethics in the district and urged everyone to take responsibility and improve the situation.
“Nobody is fearing the work ethics, and it has completely gone.”
He said it is crucial for the students and public servants to embrace a strong work ethic and contribute positively towards the development of their district.
