The Tabubil-to-Golgubip road project in Papua New Guinea’s Western Province has progressed more than 10 kilometers that connected the isolated village of Imikabip for the first time in 50 years on 1st June2026.
The road is funded by the Ok Tedi Tax Credit Scheme, this K37 million initiative is being constructed by Kayop Investment Ltd.
Villagers welcomed the excavator with tears of joy as it broke through to the community. The new section now provides direct access to healthcare, markets, and other essential services.
Kayop Managing Director Maino Lucas told this newsroom the work will continue beyond Imikabip noting that this is not the final destination and there is more to go and complete.
He said survey teams are already working beyond Golgubip toward Murray Valley to plan the next stage ensuring that it reaches the back areas of Golgubip. That is the whole reason they started.
The project aims to connect rural North Fly communities that have remained isolated since Ok Tedi Mining Ltd began operations and have seen limited government services.
Local leaders, including Olsobip LLG President Falo Antiok, thanked Ok Tedi Mining Ltd for the funding and praised the contractor for breaking the long-standing isolation of the community
