INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS KICK OFF AT UNAGI OVAL

UNDER the National Capital District, One City, One People, One Country Program- the 2 days 51st Independence Anniversary celebrations at the Unagi Oval, Gordons in Port Moresby, has kicked off today leading up to tomorrow September 16th.

People have gathered at the venue to take part and celebrate the country’s independence, culture and unity.

The celebrations are hosted by the National Capital District Commission under this year’s celebration theme City, One People, One Country.

The program opened with the National Anthem and followed by live DJ entertainment from DJ Shield entairning the crowd.

Today’s program will feature traditional singing and performances from cultural groups representing different provinces alongside music showcases and will also include stand-up comedy, string-band performances, community activities and tug-of-war competitions for men and women, giving families and communities plenty of entertainment throughout the day.

The celebrations are expected to continue into the afternoon, bringing together people from across Port Moresby to celebrate 51 years of Papua New Guinea’s independence.

The FM100 Crew will be live on location at Unagi Oval tomorrow September 16th to bring live updates of the celebration.

Meanwhile, at Ela Beach, the Amazing Port Moresby Arts and Music Festival continues into its 4th day today.

The festival features live band performances and dance groups, also over 150 SME’s stalls set up for SME groups to sell their items and produce and food during the past 3 days leading up to the main event tomorrow.
