EASTERN HIGHLANDS WELCOME NEW POLICE COMMANDER

BY VICKY BAUNKE, in Goroka

EASTERN Highlands province has formally welcomed its new Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Albert Beli, as the province prepares for the 51st Independence celebrations and the 70th Goroka Show.

A police welcome parade was held outside the Goroka Police Station today, bringing together police personnel and members of the public.

PPC Beli replaces outgoing commander, Chief Superintendent John Kale.

In his maiden address, PPC Beli said the parade was held to inform the public of his policing plans and operational priorities going forward.

He called on police personnel to maintain strict discipline both on and off duty, saying professional conduct is important in maintaining public confidence.

PPC Beli also urged communities to work closely with police to address law-and-order issues, including violence linked to sorcery accusations.

He appealed to the people of Eastern Highlands to work together with police to maintain peace and security across the province.
