The 2025 National Tourism Conference and Expo, organized by the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority (PNG TPA) in partnership with the PNG Tourism Industry Association PNGTIA) and MRDC as the platinum sponsor, is set to take place from April 9th to 10th at the Hilton Hotel in Port Moresby.
The event will be held under the theme “Honoring Our Past, Transforming Our Future,” which aligns with the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
This Land mark event will bring together leaders from the tourism industry, government agencies, and international tourism experts to discuss strategies for advancing Papua New Guinea’s tourism sector.
According to Ingrid Kuman, the Executive Manager of Marketing and Promotions at PNG TPA, the goal is to create meaningful conversations and find practical solutions to issues facing the industry.
Kuman emphasized that the timing of the event is perfect as it coincides with the country’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The conference will feature over 35 expert speakers from both Papua New Guinea and abroad, with 300 participants expected.
In addition to the conference, there will be an exhibition offering a platform to showcase tourism-related products and services.
“This is an ideal opportunity to unite the industry and bring together everyone to discuss issues and find solutions,” Kumman said. “It’s a chance to look at the past, reflect on the present, and work towards a successful future.”
Erue Bucher Taunao, Interim President of the PNG Tourism Industry Association, also highlighted the significance of the event, noting that the tourism industry has come a long way in the past 50 years. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase Papua New Guinea’s tourism potential and build for the future,” she added.
The conference is expected to generate discussions on the resilience of the industry, particularly after the impact of COVID-19. It aims to promote sustainable tourism practices and offer valuable insights into how businesses can recover and thrive.
The event will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Papua New Guinea’s tourism industry, fostering collaboration between industry stakeholders and guiding the country’s tourism policies moving forward.
