The National Parliament has adjourned to reconvene on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, at 10am, to debate a Notice of Motion of No Confidence against Prime Minister James Marape, Member for Tari-Pori.

This follows a Supreme Court ruling on 31 March 2025 in SCCA No. 1 of 2025, which declared the decision by the Private Business Committee as invalid and ordered Parliament to debate the motion originally submitted on 27 November 2024.

The motion, moved by Sir Puka Temu, nominates Grand Chief Sir Pita Ipatas, Member for Enga Provincial, as the alternative Prime Minister.

In compliance with the Court’s orders, the Speaker convened Parliament today, placing the motion on the Notice Paper. As per parliamentary procedure, the motion must remain on the Notice Paper for seven days before debate.

The Chair urged members to maintain respect and uphold the Constitution during this critical process.
