CITY Pharmacy Limited (CPL) has agreed to source funds and construct new facilities to support patients under an innovative partnership with the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority.
NCDPHA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Robin Oge, said the arrangement allows CPL to build CPL dispensary at hospital sites to sell essential medicine and care items, making healthcare more convenient for patients.
Dr. Oge said the model is already successful at Port Moresby Gerehu Hospital and will now extend to other NCD health facilities, improving patient experience and accessibility.
He added that CPL is also building a café at the new City Pharmacy project site, which will serve both patients and hospital staff.
Dr. Oge described the partnership as a “win-win model” that benefits patients, health workers and CPL alike, and said it could serve as a model for other provinces across Papua New Guinea.
Dr Oge made these announcements today during the signing of an MoU between National Capital District Provincial Health Authority and City Pharmacy Limited, Public–Private Partnership arrangement.
City Pharmacy Limited Head of Pharmacy Mr. Pradeep Panda said the partnership is a strong example of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together to deliver quality healthcare for communities.
Under the partnership, City Pharmacy will establish and operate pharmacy facilities within the Gerehu General Hospital through a Build Operate Transfer arrangement.
The initiative aims to improve access to affordable medicines and healthcare products, while easing congestion at hospital dispensaries. After a set operational period, the facilities will be transferred back to the government as public property.
The Gerehu General Hospital outlet will serve as the first project under this agreement, with potential expansion to other Provincial Health Authorities across Papua New Guinea.
