THE Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Beldan Namah, has pledged K250,000 in annual funding to support tourism and hospitality training at the Asia Pacific Institute of Science and Technology.

Minister Namah made the announcement during his speech at the institution’s 12th graduation ceremony held on Friday the 24th, where he attended as an invited guest.

He said the funding will be formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding to be signed next week, as part of efforts to strengthen skills development in the tourism sector.

In addition, the Minister committed to sending students from his electorate to study at the institution, and pledged to settle any outstanding school fees for those already enrolled.

More than 40 students graduated, including five who received nursing practising licences, highlighting the institution’s contribution to workforce development.

Minister Namah also acknowledged the institution for giving students a second chance at education, particularly those who were not initially accepted elsewhere.

Meanwhile Minister Namah encouraged the graduates to use their skills to support Papua New Guinea’s cultural identity and tourism potential.

He said nation-building is not the responsibility of government alone, but requires every educated citizen to contribute through their profession, creativity, and service.

Minister Namah also called for stronger support of local products and small and medium enterprises, saying this is vital for strengthening the domestic economy and creating opportunities for Papua New Guineans.

The Minister said integrating education, culture, and local economic development is essential for long-term national progress and identity preservation
