SCHOOL OF MEDICINE & HEALTH SCIENCES CONCLUDES UPNG 71ST GRADUATION

THE University of Papua New Guinea has officially concluded its 71st graduation week, with the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) marking the final day of celebrations.

More than 300 students graduated, bringing to a close a week-long series of ceremonies starting from 27th of April to the 01st of May under the theme “Reset UPNG @ 60: Empowering Quality Graduates for Stronger PNG”.

Graduates received qualifications across a range of disciplines, including surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, medicine, laboratory science, midwifery, and Postgraduate Masters and Diplomas in related field and other health-related professions.

Officiated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Lae, John Rosso who congratulated the graduands for reaching a significant milestone in their academic journey.

Rosso emphasized that their achievements are not only personal, but also a contribution to the nation as a whole.

He highlighted the critical role the graduates will play in strengthening Papua New Guinea’s healthcare system, serving a population of over 11 million people.

He urged the new health professionals to uphold discipline, strong ethics, and a positive attitude in their work.

While acknowledging the milestone, Rosso also reminded the graduates the country continues to face a shortage of medical professionals and encouraged them to be part of the solution to ongoing health challenges.
