KALANG Advertising Limited (KAL) is celebrating its 44th anniversary today, marking a milestone as the oldest commercial radio in media and broadcasting in the country.
Originally established by the NBC in 1982 as Radio 2FM, the station was rebranded to Kalang FM in 1987 and transitioned to a subsidiary of Telikom Limited.
As the station celebrates this milestone, KAL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr Bill Wartovo thanked the staff, the parent company Telikom and the board, partners for their continuous support over the past 44 years.
Mr Wartovo said KAL has offered a space for featuring news, talkback programs like the Nasfund FM100 Talkback Show, and also provides platforms for businesses to promote products, demonstrating the resilience and the creativity of the people.
He adds that aside from broadcasting, the company also orchestrates various public and private events, occasion or gatherings through its business arm, Kalang Events Management.
The CEO thanked God for the journey so far and emphasised that going forward the radio broadcast will continue to innovate and inspire the media broadcasting sector in the country.
Kalang Advertising Limited is currently trading as FM100, its premiere radio station, youth Radio station Hot97FM and Kalang Events Management.
The highlight of celebrating the company’s anniversary today, was the special appearance on the Nasfund FM100 Talkback Show, by legendary radio personality Memafu Kapera, who brought the discussion and conversation down memory lane to where the journey of this legendary radio station started.
Mr Douglas Dimagi, current host of the Nasfund FM100 Talkback show, also shared memories of the transition of the radio station to its present day, and also paid special tribute to those who have been part of the 44 years journey, in the likes of Late Justin Kili, Late Roger Hau’ ofa, Late Patrick Patu, Memafu Kapera, Terry FM Longbut, Cathleen Eremas, Anne Sapias amongst others.
