NATIONAL EDUCATION BOARD MEMBERS SWORN IN

BY SHARON AGAVI
THE Education Department has officially inducted and sworn in its new members of the National Education Board (NEB) today at the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby.
The NEB comprise representatives from key education stakeholders, including the State, churches, the business community, teachers and other sectors involved in the education of children.
NEB is responsible for making major policy decisions on the national school curriculum, teacher quality, infrastructure development, education plans and other critical areas of the education sector.
Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra said the board serves a three-year term, with the previous board’s tenure expired in March 2026.
He said the Acting Minister for Education appointed the new members, who were formally sworn in during the ceremony.
Speaking on behalf of Acting Minister for Education Kinoka Feo, Dr. Kombra urged board and alternate members to familiarise themselves with their roles and responsibilities.
He said their mandate is to provide strong governance, ensure accountability and deliver sound policy advice and direction for the country’s education system.
“Serving on the National Education Board is both a great honour and a rare opportunity,” Dr. Kombra said.
“The decisions made over the next few years will directly impact the lives of Papua New Guineans.
The choices you make will determine whether teachers in remote areas receive the support they need, whether students in vocational institutions have clear career pathways, and whether schools remain safe, modern and conducive to learning.”
Meantime, Dr. Kombra congratulated the members on their appointments and welcomed them to the National Education Board.
