DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE TO BE ESTABLISHED IN KIUNGA

By Mortimer YANGHARRY, Western Province
North Fly Open MP James Donald recently announced a significant step toward advancing health independence for the North Fly District and the broader Western Province with the establishment of the Kiunga Hospital Diagnostic Center.
The North Fly District Development Authority (NFDDA) Chairman said this initiative will provide essential services in radiology and cardiology, marking a new era in healthcare accessibility for the communities.
“As Papua New Guinea approaches its 50th anniversary, the establishment of the Kiunga Hospital Diagnostic Center stands as a beacon of hope and progress, symbolizing our commitment to improving healthcare standards in the region,” Donald said.
The second term MP highlighted that the center is designed to meet the growing health needs of the North Fly people, ensuring that essential diagnostic services are available locally.
He revealed that the Kiunga Hospital Diagnostic Center will include state-of-the-art radiology and cardiology departments, equipped with modern technology and staffed by qualified professionals.
“This project is instrumental in addressing critical health issues while easing the burden on patients who previously traveled long distances for these services into Port Moresby and other centers in the country,” he said.
The People’s Reform Party founder and parliamentary leader stressed that the importance of this initiative cannot be overstated as it represents the NFDDA dedication to enhancing healthcare access and outcomes in rural areas.
“By investing in local health infrastructure, we are not only improving health services but also fostering a sense of self-reliance among the North Fly District residents,” he said.
Donald said that the NFDDA believe that with the successful implementation of this project it will pave the way toward a healthier future for the district, province and country as a whole.
“It is not just about healthcare; it is about building a resilient society capable of celebrating Papua New Guineaβs 50th anniversary with pride and optimism,” Donald said.
“We are grateful for the support of our stakeholders and partners who have contributed to this vision. As we move forward with the establishment of the Kiunga Hospital Diagnostic Center, we encourage everyone’s involvement in this vital project and look forward to celebrating our nation’s milestones together,” he added
He is confident of the success of this vital health project saying the project practical completion and commissioning is likely to be towards the end of the year.
