DRAFT STATE REPORT ON CRPD GOES THROUGH FINAL VALIDATION

THE Draft State Report on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was officially checked and proven to be correct last week, during a workshop held at the Gateway Hotel.
During the workshop, stakeholders gave updates on the status of CRPD implementation in PNG, outlining progress made, challenges encountered and gaps that requires attention.
The CRPD was drafted, after a nationwide consultation, including one held in Bougainville.
The draft report is in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), which PNG formally ratified in 2013.
The validation workshop is the final step to ensure the report accurately reflects Government actions.
Department for Community Development and Religion, deputy Secretary, Mr Jack Simbou said disability inclusion is not the responsibility of one department alone.
It is a whole-of-government approach involving all sectors and agencies, as well as society as a whole.
The final validated CRPD will be submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
